Tanning Tips/News

  • Burning Is Not Necessary To Tan!   Some people feel they have to burn before they can tan and nothing is further from the truth.  The fact is, when you burn, you damage your skin.  The most important tip to keep in mind is moderation.  Building your tan slowly in a well prepared schedule of exposure will produce the best results with the least risk of damaging your skin.

  • Moderate Outdoor Exposure.  Under high outdoor UV conditions, unprotected, untanned skin can burn in as little as 20 minutes. Always use a sunscreen lotion when outdoors, based upon your skin type. UV rays are strongest between the hours of 10:30am and 3:00pm and your sun protection factor (lotions and clothing) should be increased during these hours.

  • Moderate Indoor UV Exposure.  You may think that if you can maintain a tan by tanning twice a week for 25 minutes, you will become even darker if you tan 5 times a week for 45 minutes. This is not the way a tan works! Depending on your skin type, you will only reach a certain degree of darkness.

  • One Thing At A Time.  Never combine indoor and outdoor tanning on the same day.

  • Medications.  Certain medications make your skin more sensitive to light. If you are on any medication, consult your doctor or a pharmacist before tanning.

  • Lotions.  Moist skin tans better, so always use quality moisturizers before, during and after tanning to maximize the effects of your time, while being kind to your skin.

  • Swimming, Bathing, Showers.  Water dries the skin and robs it of essential nutrients and moisture, which is detrimental to tanning. Try not to bathe for 2 or 3 hours before your tanning session. Avoid bathing immediately after tanning because the tanning process continues even after your session ends. And remember, use moisturizing lotions!

  • Always use Eye Wear.  You won't have a clue that you have a tan if you can't see it! Very simply put, Protect Your Eyes! Your eyelids offer practically no protection against UV rays. While tanning indoors, always wear protective goggles. Outdoors, be sure you are wearing a pair of sunglasses that offers UV protection.
